Jazz Weekend, Reinach BL

25. June 2005 Jazz-Night

After a very successful first concert with his new band in Albisgüetli in March 2005, a rather exceptional event awaited Heinz Flueckiger and his new formation in Reinach! Country music at a jazz night?? After this concert everybody was convinced: Yes, it is possible!
With a varied program including country, swing, Texas-swing and blues Heinz Flueckiger and his musicians delighted even convinced friends of jazz and persuaded them without any doubt of their music talent! There were 4 show-stages at the Jazz Night in Reinach and after only a few chords there was no seat left in front of Heinz Flückiger’s stage. No problem for the audience, after a while the whole place was full of guests. People were dancing and singing and the audience didn’t want to let them go off stage. With standing ovations they claimed for extras on and on so that they finally played until 1h30 in the morning!!

Here an article which appeared in the local newspaper: The Jazz-Weekend has become a fix date in the Reinach events calendar. This weekend it took place for the 8th time. But in a way it was still a premiere this year: After having realized that the town council of Reinach could not take care of everything they assigned experienced people to handle this project, said Eva Chappuis, member of the town council. For the first time it was organized by the „Verein Kultur“ (culture club) in Reinach. President Gerda Massüber writes in the program flyer: “I thank everybody who made the jazz weekend possible with their contribution and also the sponsors who make this attractive and popular event possible”. But now to the entertainment.
On the way to the town hall square the visitors traditionally met the „Marching Band“ with Grand Marshall Rene Wiegand; a superb introduction – one had the feeling of walking through Bourbon Street in New Orleans. It was therefore the „Bourbon Street Jazz Band“ from Lucerne who opened the evening; they delighted the audience with groovy and nicely arranged Oldtime-Jazz-Hits, going back in time.   Beside the usual band stages, bands performed for the first time in a pavilion on the Angensteinerplatz. The „Crazy Safes“ turned the music wheel back and played hits of the Sixties, for example from the Beatles. Heinz Flueckiger, winner of the «International Country Award 2004» in the category soloist, offered with his band a large selection of first class country, blues and swing; with „standing ovations“ at 1h30 in the morning(!).
On the Ernst Feigenwinter-Platz the „New Castle Jazz Band“ played mainly songs from famous All Stars and this in a virtuous way. They were followed by the „Blues Rooster“, who made the hardcore blues fans happy as usual. And “last but not least“ the stage near carpenter Wenger: There the visitors could listen to the „Backyard, Tub, Jug and Washboard Band“. These gentlemen guarantee for an authentic New Orleans jazz from the time when musicians, due to a lack of money, had to play with improvised instruments like a whisky-jug, the noseflute und 20 “other instruments.
Dieter Schweingruber, who played Louis Armstrong not only on his trumpet but also with his voice, showing his fascination for this exceptional musician, performed a groovy dixieland with his band  „Dixie Surprise“. The „Original Dixie Revival Set Company“ played during the traditional jazz brunch on Sunday on the town hall square; wonderful arrangements and brilliant soli. See you next year: „keep swinging“.
